Hoarding cleanouts in Madison, with respect

A hoarded home can hide biohazards, mold, pests and years of loss. We work with the person and the family, at a pace they can handle, save what matters and clear the rest safely. No judgment, ever. We also handle unattended death, suicide, crime scene and homicide, blood and biohazard, death odor removal and tear gas and fingerprint powder cleanup, and the rebuild afterward.

What we do

How hoarding cleanout works around Madison

Hoarding usually builds over years, and it’s rarely about the stuff. It can follow a loss, an illness or a hard stretch of life. A cleanout goes best when the person who lives there has a say in it, and when the crew treats them and their things with respect.

We start with a walkthrough and a conversation. Together we agree on what stays, what goes and what to look for: papers, photos, cash, medications, jewelry. Then we work room by room, set found items aside in a box for the family and handle anything hazardous, like animal waste, sharps or spoiled food, safely.

Dignity

Working with the person, not around them

Clearing a home without the person’s buy-in often ends with the home filling back up. We’d rather go slower and have it stick. We ask before we throw things away, explain why something can’t stay when it’s unsafe, and never shame anyone.

If the person has support, like a therapist or case worker, we’re glad to work with them. Our hoarding help guide lists local resources.

Hazards

What can be hiding in a hoarded home

Animal and rodent waste, spoiled food, mold, sharps and sometimes an unattended death. Narrow paths also make falls and fires more likely. Our techs wear protective gear and check for hazards before moving things.

If we find something that changes the plan, we stop and talk to you before going on.

After a death

Clearing a hoarded home after someone dies

Sometimes we’re called after the person has died, and the family needs the house cleared to sell or settle the estate. We still sort carefully for papers, photos and valuables, and we can do any death cleanup and the rebuild in the same plan.

We send photo updates if the family lives out of town.

How a job like this goes

A parent's house after years of buildup

What we walk into

Two adult children living out of state needed to help their father, who still lived in the family home. Paths were narrow, the kitchen was unusable and there were signs of mice.

What we did

  1. Visit 1. The tech met the father and one of his kids, listened and walked through together.
  2. Plan. Kitchen and bathroom first, then the bedroom; he chose what to keep; found-items box for papers.
  3. Week 1. Kitchen and bath cleared, cleaned and sanitized; rodent waste removed safely.
  4. Weeks 2-3. Remaining rooms at his pace, with photo updates sent to the family.

The result. He kept living at home, safely, with the things that mattered to him.

A typical example of how these jobs go, written to show our process. It isn’t a specific client; names and addresses are never shared.

From our techs

Hoarding cleanout tips from our techs

What we tell people on the phone before we get there.

01

Start with one room

A safe kitchen or a clear path to the bathroom can matter more than an empty house.

02

Look for papers first

Wills, deeds, titles, tax papers and bank statements often turn up. We set them aside.

03

Bring in support

A friend, a counselor or a case worker can help the person through it.

04

Plan for follow-up

A few return visits often keep the home from filling back up.

A room can look fine and still be contaminated under the floor or behind the trim. We follow the fluids, take out what has to go and test the surfaces before we call it done.
